I hope your summer so far has been filled with many exciting events and fun! I cannot wait to hear about all of your adventures and stories when school starts back on August 15!
My summer so far has been very exciting and relaxing! I have enjoyed days by the pool, reading (a lot!), visiting with my family and friends, and one of my favorites as you know, sleeping in! My family has had some very exciting things happen lately as well. As you know, my older sister, Abbie is engaged and getting married in November...so there have been many days filled with helping her with wedding plans. Also, my oldest sister, Cassie, had her beautiful baby boy, Kaeson, in June. I am officially an aunt! :) My family and I ventured off to California to see my new nephew, it was so much fun! I took many pictures and will be sure to share them with you.
I can't wait to hear about your summer adventures! Be sure to continue to have a safe and sun filled summer (for a few more weeks)!

Real-World 3-D Shapes We have just started our new math unit, what makes a shape a shape? Through this unit, students will study 2-D and 3-D shapes. Students will be identifying, explaining, creating, and comparing shapes based on their defining (number of sides and corners) and non-defining (color, size, and orientation) attributes. Throughout this unit, our overall essential question is "what are the attributes that make shapes 'be' what they are?"
With this unit, we have many lessons that students will be using real-world 3-D shapes. This is where your help comes in! We are in need of real-world 3-D shapes that represent rectangular prisms, pyramids, cones, cubes, spheres, and circular cylinders- in all sizes! Below are some real-world examples of each shape, but feel free to be creative and think of your own. Please send in as many objects as you are willing to, we appreciate it!
Rectangular Prism: any type of rectangular box (cereal box, pop-tart box, shoe box, etc.) Pyramid: wooden pyramid block Cube: dice, wooden block, rubix cube, or any cube shaped box Sphere: any type of sports ball (toy size) Cone: party hat and ice cream cone Circular Cylinder: food container (oatmeal box), candle, cardboard inside of toilet paper or paper towel rolls, can of food, or soda can
Please begin to send in shapes A.S.A.P. We will begin our 3-D shape lessons Thursday January 12th.
*There have been some photos added to our 'Pictures' section from the last few months, be sure to check them out!

Walk-a-Thon: the walk-a-thon is this Wednesday, September 7th. Be sure to send your child with tennis shoes and a water bottle! Snacks and Water Bottles: Just a reminder, as stated in the classroom handbook- Your child may bring a small nutritious snack and water bottle to school each day. Please do not send water bottles with twist off caps! Your child may bring a thermos or water bottle with a sports top. Since our snack is a working snack, please send in one snack that can be eaten while working. Fruit, vegetables, cheese & crackers, yogurt, applesauce, a single Pop Tart, etc. are all acceptable. Please send the snack separate from your child’s lunch so he/she can get to it easily. Remember to send a spoon if your child’s snack requires one.
